3 Toms Hill Path - Interior

Located just a short walk to Corn Hill Beach on the bay side of Truro, this Greek Revival house built in the early 1800’s began its career as a ship captain's family house.

Four bedrooms, including two master suites on separate floors, offer sleeping for 8 people, and comfortably accommodates two families.

This vintage house features an abundance of double-hung, casement, and awning windows that draw in fresh breezes, supplemented with ceiling and floor fans for cross-ventilation.  Our goal has always been to honor the house’s roots, retain the simple pleasures of easy living on Cape Cod, but to provide essential modern-day conveniences in order to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.

First Floor Rooms

A living room, dining room, galley-style kitchen, laundry area, and “sun room” share the first floor with a master suite containing a king bed, dressing room, and access to a raised deck with SW exposure, along with two full bathrooms, one with a bathtub.  A second raised deck off the dining room, with a picnic table and gas grill, is a great place to prepare and enjoy family meals.  Amenities such as 3 working fireplaces, updated kitchen appliances, including a dishwasher, an outdoor shower, and plenty of parking provide comfort and convenience. Plus TV, a DVD player, and wireless internet- so you can stay in touch, or not.

Sun Room

This light-filled room, complete with a wet bar and undercounter refrigerator, is a wonderful place to spend time on the two sofas playing board games around the coffee table, enjoying cocktails with friends, or stretching out on the long window seat to read or doze.

When open, the glass-encased French doors offer easy access to the dining room; closed, they provide an opportunity to enjoy a quiet respite from a busy household.

Living Room

Located on the first floor, at the center of the house, the living room is a great, light-filled place for kids. A plush sofa, a large TV with DirecTV and DVD player, and a working fireplace make it a nice space for adults, too.

E view

Set apart from the living room, through an open doorway, is a cozy office with a work surface, plenty of bookshelves, and a view to the gardens on the East side of the house.

Dining Room

The quaint dining room accommodates up to six people around the table and offers a delightful alternative to outdoor dining.  With its working fireplace, flat screen TV, and easy access to the kitchen, living and sun rooms, the dining room often becomes a hub of family activity.  It opens to a raised deck on the East side of the house, surrounded by gardens, and equipped with a gas grill and a generous picnic table that seats 8 or more people.

Master Suite #1

Located on the first floor at the front of the house, near a full bathroom, the master bedroom features wide-plank antique oak floors, a king-sized bed, two nightstands, and a working fireplace. Two windows and a sliding glass door provide plenty of filtered light and fresh air.

The adjacent dressing room, accessible through the door next to the fireplace, contains two dressers and a small closet.

The master suite enjoys access to a large private, raised deck with a view to fragrant flower gardens and surrounding lawns.  Two steamer chairs invite guests to slow down and relish the quiet beauty of Cape living.

Kitchen

The galley kitchen is off the dining room, and just off the raised deck. All modern appliances. In addition the gas grill on the deck is frequently used for summer cooking.

Laundry

Tucked in a large closet behind bi-fold doors off the Sun Room, the laundry houses a washer and dryer as well as plenty of storage for bed linens, bath and beach towels.  An exterior door near the laundry opens to the West side of the house where a “Cape-essential” clothesline dries laundry naturally, warmed by the sun and air-freshened by bay breezes.

2 Full Baths

The house contains two full baths, one with a full tub/shower combination and the other with a stall shower.  Both bathrooms feature vintage pedestal sinks and updated toilets.  The outdoor shower tends to be in great demand during the summer, thanks to its generous size and proximity to nature. Few aspects of Cape life are as memorable as washing off salt and sand in a sunny outdoor shower after a day spent at the beach.

This is a 1st floor photo looking from the Living Room to the front door. A full bath is behind a door on the left, and the 1st floor master bedroom can be seen through the door on the right.

At the time the house was owned by the Hartwig family, which is why the famous photograph is titled "Hartwig House." His photograph is seen in posters, and is the first print in his first book "Cape Light".  Cape Light is considered a classic work of color photography.

Second Floor Rooms

The second floor features a second master suite, also with a king bed, and a view of the Little Pamet River marsh.  Two additional bedrooms, each with two twin beds, complete the second floor.

Master Bedroom #2 - "Bird's Nest"

This bedroom was renovated to make it larger and to take advantage of expansive views of the Little Pamet River marsh , the horizon, and a broad-leafed maple tree at the edge of the yard.  Located above the Sun Room, it features a private setting that gives occupants a feeling of sitting in a bird’s nest.

A king-sized bed, generous built-in dressers, two closets, sofa, and plenty of windows and a ceiling fan make it a comfortable retreat.  A set of stairs leads to a first floor bathroom.

Bedroom #3 - "Tree House"

Twin pine beds and a large dresser occupy most of this small bedroom which looks out to a large lilac bush and mature, leafy trees at the front of the house. With beds situated close to each other, it’s a great spot for children who enjoy sharing a room.

Bedroom #4 - "Yellow Room"

Painted yellow floors give this cheery bedroom its name.  Twin beds sitting under the roof eaves on both sides of the room, with old-style blanket chests located at the foot of each bed, give this bedroom a nautical feel.

A large, antique dresser and bed linens in a traditional, Cape Cod style add to this room’s inherent charm.
